Sunshine Coast BC, Bujinkan Namiyama Dojo

Our little dojo features several budoka who have studied and trained for many many years:

Nami Yama Dojo InstructorMike teaches class twice a week on the Sunshine Coast and makes semi-regular trips to Japan and to workshops and seminars around the world. He has held a Teacher’s license (Shidoshi Kai) for over ten years now under Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, 34th Grandmaster of nine medieval Samurai and Ninja schools.

He has over 30 years of backcountry survival experience right here in some of British Columbia’s most remote areas and is a long-time business owner in our community. He is operating this school to help afford the costs involved with traveling for this kind of education.

Nami Yama Dojo Instructor Lyssa also makes semi-regular trips to Japan and to seminars in other parts of the world, and as of last year, passed a test before the Grandmaster to become a certified teacher (Shidoshi) of these nine medieval Japanese martial traditions. She holds a degree in psychology and has extensive study and training in the field of biology. We are very happy to have her experience, ideas, and commitment to the continued growth of our dojo.

Over the years, we have trained many people, both men and women, young and old, to defend themselves and their loved ones while out there in the world enjoying their lives. Situations come up when you least expect, subtle, brazen, and otherwise. A smaller force can defeat a larger force with the right training. Everyone deserves the confidence to walk freely in their world.
